Caffe Botanico | Sutton Coldfield

Once upon a time I used to work in Sutton Coldfield. This was years ago, before I was vegan but had just become dairy-free because of lactose intolerance. It was really hard at that time to find good dairy-free or vegan options. I worked in the area for three years and found that Quinto Lounge was the only place I could go to for lunch. Times have definitely changed. As Caffe Botanico now exists in House of Fraser in Sutton Coldfield. I was invited to go and try out the vegan options at this cafe and relay my experience to you guys. So here goes....

First off, this place is super cute and doesn't feel like it's in a department store. I also like the minimalist/trendy grey colour palette. I visited on a weekday and it was still pretty busy. It's the best combo of coffee shop and cafe.

They have a variety of choices, that include salads, pastries, sandwiches, soup, pizza, cakes, muffins, paninis, tarts (the editable kind), frittatas, teas and coffees.

I, of course, went for the vegan options. This included a vegan sausage roll, beetroot + red pepper salad and black rice + broccoli salad. As well as a soy decaf latte and a vegan carrot cake for the sweet option. Starting with the vegan roll, seen above. It was really tasty and reminded me of having a dry potato curry in a pastry. Not a bad thing in the slightest! It was also a sizable portion, not salty and really filling. So much so I was too full for the cake. The salads were great too. You could tell the ingredients were fresh and a inventive combo.

The latte was lovely too, creamy, not bitter, a good size and adorned with some pretty latte art. Just how I like it. The carrot cake was a great portion, it reminded me of Christmas, as it was spicy and warm. The cinnamon went so well with the carrot and the icing was dome-like but not chunky. It has a hefty price tag attached but the vegan tax seems to be the norm these days in most places

**I was invited to the eatery to review their vegan options. My views are my own but the meal was complimentary**

Would I go back? If I was in Sutton Coldfield in the near future, I wouldn't hesitate to visit Caffe Botanico to have it all again.

How did they cope with the vegan dietary requirement? Everything that was vegan was easily clearly labelled vegan.

What are the prices like? Altogether, this would've been around £15, which isn't bad but considering the cake alone was £4.10, I probably wouldn't have sweet and savoury, just the one.

What is eatery best for? A little respite from shopping
